The purpose of this study was, firstly, to investigate the difference in Yu-cheng children and their paired children (control group) in intelligence, mathematic achievement and academic performance. Secondly, it was to investigate the present situation of the intelligence and learning achievement of the Yu-cheng children.The population of this study was the children whose mothers were poisoned by rice oil during pregnancy, in Taiwan, in 1979, called 'Yu-cheng' children. There were above six-year-old and were in primary school stage, and also according to 7 component: poisoned condition, gender, age, mothers' age and intellience, socio-economic status, environment of living, education condition to choice paired children of Yu-cheng children.Survey method of sample used to collect such datas as IQ of WISC-R, the Mathematics Ability Development Test for the Student of Primary School, scores of Chinese, Mathematics, Nature Science, Social Study, and Total Score in school. All date were processed by T score, t test and oneway ANOVA to test the null hypothesis of the study.The results are summarized as follows:1. The Yu-chen children performance in Full Scale IQ and Verbal IQ were inferior to the paired children, and the mean reached significant difference.2. Mathematic achievement and academic performance compaired with the paried children, there is no significant difference.3. Between the different genders of the Yu-cheng children, there is no significant difference in intelligence, mathematic achievement, and academic performance.4. Among the different age groups of the Yu-cheng children, there is no significant difference in intelligence.5. Among the different degree groups of the Yu-cheng children, there is no significant difference in mathematic achievement and academic performance. |
