This study analyzes how factors such as attitudes toward divorce, political party affiliation, and stance on Taiwan’s independence influence Taiwanese people’s views on same-sex marriage, based on the “2020 Taiwan Social Change Survey.” The results show that those who view divorce as acceptable, support pan-green parties, and favor Taiwan’s independence, are more likely to support same-sex marriages. The mechanisms through which these factors shape opinions are explored, finding that national identity heavily relies on party politics. Moreover, individuals without party affiliations who prefer the status quo tend to oppose same-sex marriages, reflecting resistance to change driven by traditional family values. This analysis highlights the cultural divide within Taiwanese society regarding major issues.
