This study examines the effects of flipped learning in beginner Japanese conversation classes for Japanese majors in Taiwan and explores how differences in students’viewing behaviors relate to learning outcomes. A comparison between the 2024 flipped class and the previous non-flipped class showed significant improvement in written test performance, especially in vocabulary and grammar, whereas oral proficiency showed only a positive trend overall. Students’video-viewing behaviors were classified into three types: persistent viewing, interrupted viewing, and non-viewing. The results suggest that continuous viewers tended to use instructional videos as a tool for self-regulated learning, while interrupted and non-viewers were affected by LMS-related friction and class norms. In addition, this study pilot-tested AI-based evaluation alongside teacher assessment to explore the potential of automated assessment and feedback. Future research should focus on multimodal AI-based evaluation and adaptive learning support based on students’viewing behavior patterns. |
