This paper aims to examine, from a curriculum studies perspective, the significance of 'core competencies' in curriculum design across the four critical educational stages of K-12. The study particularly emphasizes the continuity of core competencies across different educational stages and the principles of integrated curriculum design. It highlights the vertical continuum of core competencies in the four key stages of K-12 education, focusing on how core competencies connect curriculum design from kindergarten to high school. Furthermore, the paper elucidates the crucial role of core competencies in guiding the continuity of curriculum design across different educational stages. It proposes that future curriculum reforms should involve the development of new curricula that clearly define the framework and content of core competencies, and subsequently articulate the principles of curriculum design for core competencies at each educational stage to facilitate the implementation of core competency-based curriculum design in the four critical stages of K-12 education.'' |
