This article was meant to study on the education policies for indigenous people, i.e. Māori, as well as indigenous language in New Zealand through documentary analysis. The article was divided into four parts: introduction to education system and the definition of Māori education, previous education policies related to indigenous people and Māori language, the new released relevant education policies, and exploration of distinguishing features of indigenous education policies. The main policies introduced were National Education and Learning Priorities policy statement, Education Work Programme, Ka Hikitia-Maori Education Strategy, Tau MaiTe Reo, The Maori Language in Education Strategy etc. |
