The use of authentic materials is closely related to language instruction for specific purposes. In the field of teaching legal Chinese, authentic materials are essential to address the practical communication needs of non-native speakers. This paper explores how to design legal Chinese teaching materials by using an authentic tenancy contract. It includes exercises and classroom activities based on real scenarios that simulate communication between tenants and landlords. Learners are tasked with solving problems through close reading and analysis of the contract, supported by peer collaboration and teacher guidance. Drawing on practical teaching experience, the paper also reviews international research on the principles and challenges of using authentic materials in foreign language teaching. It aims to contribute to the development of authentic materials that help foreign learners navigate real-life communication situations more effectively. |
