In the process of 51.1-kilometer triathlon competition, there is a difference between the completion-oriented contestants aiming for finishing the competition within a deadline and the competition-oriented contestants pursuing the best result and ranking. For a completion-oriented contestant, it is never facile to deal with various challenging situations in competitions. This paper attempts to study these contestants’ skill practice and problem-solving process in the competitions. This goal of article is to analyze the contestants’ skill practice experiences via the narratives of triathlon competition experience found in books, magazines and blogs. For those completion-oriented contestants, the difficulty of competition lies in three key issues of environment, people and ego. For the competition-oriented contestants, some problem-solving skills seem to be facile while it is a highly-challenged process of skill practice for the completion-oriented contestants. In this process of challenge, the contestants bring out the vivid awareness and inspire extraordinary feeling. The active and unique awareness of skill practice not only adds a colorful touch of contestants’ competition experiences but also emphasizes the charismas of triathlon. |
