In this study, the Chinese-Japanese parallel corpus is used to explorethe communicative features of the Japanese contrastive discourse marker‘demo’ appearing at the initial part of an utterance and to clarify the useof its Chinese correspondences including the Chinese contrastive markers,‘keshi’, ‘buguo’, and ‘danshi’ .Analyzing the communicative features of ‘demo’ reveals that, firstly,‘demo’ has a strong translation relationship with ‘keshi’ in the function ofthe “Opposition announce”. Secondly, the function of “Topic shift” is thecharacteristic of the Japanese contrastive discourse marker ‘demo’.Thirdly, ‘demo’ has both of the meanings of “supplement” and“restriction” in the function of “Information addition”. On the other hand,through building up the relationship of ‘demo’ and the Chinesecorrespondences, we can find out the features of the Chinese contrastivemarkers. |
