The author uses Shiga Naoya’s short story Kinosaki ni te ('At CapeKinosaki') as teaching material with an aim to explore the followingissues: How to read literary works in class? What shall be learnedthrough reading? How to profoundly enjoy them?Traditionally Japanese literature education tends to focus ongrammatical analysis 、Person structure of the novel as well ashero/heroine’s mentality so as to result in a teacher-centered pedagogicalpitfall. Presumably it would be hard to perceive students’ inner changethrough the process of contextual learning due to the above-mentionedfactors. By utilizing TAE Theory, this paper aims at exploring learners’view of life and death through reading Shiga Naoya’s Kinosaki ni te.The research procedures the author conducted were: firstly, employing my sentence note, which is part of TAE Theory, to clarifystudents’ view of life and death; secondly, to describe their feeling of thenovel after reading through it. |
