A curriculum-based learning strategies inventory was developed to survey junior high school students and a learning strategies training program was designed in order to examine the effectiveness of learning strategies instruction. In phase I, 1667 8th graders were received the survey of the learning strategies inventory. And in phase II, 179 7th graders were assigned to either learning strategies training experimental groups or control groups. The results showed that (a)the subjects used learning strategies at a satisfactory level though they still needed training in some active learning strategies; (b)the scores of learning strategies were significantly correlated with IQ and the average academic achievement scroes; (c)the learning strategies instruction had significant positive effects on the students' academic achievement scores, especially for female students. Further, the results suggested that a relative comprehensive learning strategies instrument needs to be developed and a sound learning strategies training program is worth implementing. |
