英文摘要 |
This research addresses two questions. First, before the Sunflower Movement, does Internet use affect protest participation in Taiwan? If yes, what aspects of Internet use exert this influence? The independent variables include the source of political news, Internet use frequency, how much time spending on the Internet per day, and the purpose of Internet use. TEDS 2013 is employed for statistical analysis. The time span covered by this dataset is from 2010 to 2013. The results show that Internet use did have an effect on protest participation in Taiwan before the Sunflower Movement. However, this effect only happens when people use the Internet to visit information platforms such as Bulletin Board System (BBS) or web forum. The reason may be that information platform facilitates opinion exchange and discussion among users. Other aspects of Internet use do not affect protest participation. |
