National Taiwan University Hospital Hsin-Chu Branch has established a smart hospital development model within an integrated, multi-tiered healthcare system involving a medical center, a regional hospital, and a district hospital. Guided by its people-centered and health-oriented core values, the hospital has implemented a dual governance framework in which top-down leadership and bottom-up innovation are integrated through its Smart Healthcare Promotion Committee and Smart Healthcare Innovation Center. Through data integration, the hospital has developed a cross- disciplinary innovation mechanism driven by clinical needs. In addition to incorporating technologies such as smart logistics, artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted medical image analysis, telemedicine, and mixed reality, the hospital has established a comprehensive translational innovation pathway involving technology development, field validation, regulatory approval, and commercialization. These initiatives have resulted in multiple patents, Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (TFDA) approvals, and international medical device certifcations, while facilitating industrial adoption and international expansion through collaborative partnerships. Implementation outcomes demonstrate substantial improvements in process efciency, workforce utilization, and healthcare quality. These fndings indicate that the hospital has developed a practical model for advancing smart hospitals from technology adoption to institutionalization and commercialization, with strong potential for scalability and replication across healthcare settings.
