As healthcare systems face the growing challenges of population aging and workforce shortages, digital transformation has become essential for enhancing healthcare quality and patient safety. Since 2019, Kaohsiung Municipal Siaogang Hospital has implemented a hospital-wide digital transformation strategy guided by the principles of humanistic care and patient-centered services. Aligned with the Smart Hospital Accreditation Standards of the National Healthcare Quality Award (NHQA) and incorporating environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles, the hospital has developed a patient-centered smart hospital model focused on optimizing clinical workflows and enhancing service value. Through the comprehensive adoption of advanced technologies, including artifcial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), cloud computing, and mobile technologies, the hospital has established highly integrated smart systems across six major healthcare service domains: outpatient, emergency, inpatient, surgical, pharmaceutical, and laboratory services. The implementation of these systems has improved operational efciency, reduced human error, enhanced staf working conditions, and increased patient satisfaction and care experience. In addition, these initiatives have supported the hospital’s sustainability goals by promoting paperless operations and reducing carbon emissions. This experience demonstrates how digital transformation can strengthen healthcare resilience while improving the quality and value of care. It also provides a practical reference for healthcare organizations seeking to advance smart hospital development and sustainable healthcare services.
