The Impact of Daily Screen Time, Nightly Screen Time, and Online Activities on Internet Gaming Disorder, Smartphone Addiction, and Academic Performance Among Primary and Junior High School Students |
| 英文摘要 |
This study utilized data from the National Survey of Internet Use Behavior of Primary and Junior High School Students in Taiwan, conducted by the Taiwan Ministry of Education. Using the Mixture Model, the study identified patterns of internet usage among primary and junior high school students in Taiwan, examining daily screen time, nightly screen time, and online activities. The analysis involved 4,485 students and classified them into three groups: regular users, heavy daily internet users, and heavy bedtime internet users. Findings revealed that heavy daily internet users and heavy bedtime internet users constitute high-risk groups for smartphone addiction and internet gaming disorder (IGD). Furthermore, these groups were linked to poor academic performance among junior high school students. In contrast, heavy bedtime internet users among primary school students emerged as the primary high-risk group associated with poor academic outcomes. The results provide valuable insights for educators and practitioners, emphasizing the need to focus on specific online activities and screen time patterns to effectively identify high-risk groups for IGD, smartphone addiction, and academic challenges. |
