This study investigates how literary works are selected and compiled by editors, who are also called "professionals" by Lefevere, to represent a writer’s translated monograph or various writers’ collocations as well as anthologies and what translation strategies are applied or employed to edit and render an English anthology of Taiwan literature. Therefore, developed on Even-Zohar’s translation poetics in/from Polysystem, this study is established on the framework of Lefevere’s theoretical concept of "translation as rewriting", to explore what translation poetics are introduced by and constructed with selected literary translations by editors, to build up the image of Taiwan (literature) for the target readers and to advocate the re-construed poetics in the target literary system. Moreover, the difference and the influence of the poetics developed in the original literary system are discussed with those built up by the translations of anthologies of Taiwanese literature in the target literary system. |
