This study proposes a theoretical framework and practical assessment design for visualization tasks in Japanese language education, using the poem Kakitsubata by Osamu Ueda as the target text. A visualization task was administered to 27 first-year international students, and 12 Japanese student raters evaluated the results using a rubric covering“Knowledge (Cultural Understanding)”and“Attitude (Cultural Acceptance).”Simple linear regression indicated a positive association between these two domains, suggesting the task’s effectiveness. Based on these findings, the study positions visualization tasks as an act of externalizing learners’inner images, mediating Focus on Meaning and Focus on Form. Furthermore, a revised rubric based on three Can-do descriptors and the Interprototype Hypothesis is proposed. It concludes that visualization tasks effectively assess learners’meaning-making processes, cultural understanding, and cultural acceptance. |
