This text aims to explore the relationship between the representation of ''earthquakes'' and family in ''Killing Commendatore'' and to clarify the meaning of the work in the context of earthquakes. In ''Killing Commendatore,'' ''earthquakes'' are not part of the main theme of ''recovery'' but appear in the ''aftermath.'' Based on this structure, the text analyzes three types of family relationships in the work. Firstly, the protagonist accepts a child with whom he has no blood relation as his daughter, constructing a family relationship based on affection. Secondly, Menshiki discovers affection beyond blood ties in his relationship with Marie, and he also embodies the potential for new interpersonal relationships. Lastly, the parent-child relationship between Tomohiko Amada and Masahiko Amada reveals the limitations of blood inheritance and demonstrates the possibility of spiritual inheritance. From the above, it can be seen that the three types of family relationships depicted in ''Killing Commendatore'' demonstrate the potential for families beyond blood ties. Moreover, these family forms are connected to new bonds in post-earthquake society, suggesting new developments in post-earthquake Japanese society. |
