This article introduces the application of fuzzy theory in defining and teaching giftedness. Fuzzy theory posits that giftedness and talent are dynamic characteristics shaped by an individual’s interactions with environmental and cultural stimuli. Traditional methods for identifying gifted individuals rely on five issues: (1) threshold, (2) structure, (3) conditions, (4) types, and (5) interactions. These challenges contribute to the ambiguity of giftedness definitions and difficulties in talent selection. Fuzzy theory in the context of giftedness emphasizes that giftedness is a dynamic process that evolves through an individual’s interaction with environmental and cultural stimuli. According to this theory, gifted individuals’characteristics are elicited or activated based on specific external factors such as learning environments, challenges, and personal experiences. The concept of graded stimuli and interactive norms is central to the application of fuzzy theory in understanding and nurturing giftedness. The application of fuzzy theory in gifted education provides a fresh perspective on how to identify and support gifted students, especially in contexts like Taiwan. |
