This paper presents the implementation experience of the Ministry of Education's Mandarin Education Program (MEP) at the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) since 2024. The author was assigned to the School of Economic, Political and Policy Sciences (EPPS), where multiple Mandarin courses-including Advanced Chinese, Medical Chinese, and Business Chinese-as well as an English-taught course on Taiwan studies were offered. Course design was tailored to students' academic backgrounds and professional interests. In addition, a Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) project was conducted to facilitate virtual exchanges and cross-cultural learning between students in the United States and Taiwan. Beyond classroom instruction, the program actively promoted Taiwanese culture and educational resources through campus and community engagement. Key initiatives included the establishment of the Taiwan Studies Initiative official website, promotion of MEP and Taiwan-related scholarships, participation in International Week with a ''Team Taiwan'' booth, and the organization of a large-scale Taiwanese folk music concert. Overall, the program effectively integrated language education, cultural outreach, and international collaboration, demonstrating the tangible impact of the Mandarin Education Program in advancing Mandarin teaching and enhancing Taiwan's international visibility. |
