“The Yunlin Culture and Art Award,”established in 2005, marked its 20th anniversary in 2024. Although the award has cultivated a considerable number of Yunlin-born writers, it has received little scholarly attention. A review of the winning works reveals that Lin Haochun, a young researcher of Yunlin literary history, has contributed to the Yunlin Culture and Art Award multiple times since 2019. Identifying as a“Yunlin writer,”he promotes local literature across Taiwan—and even internationally—through both research and creative writing. His work serves as a new model for practitioners of regional literary writing. This paper attempts to address two questions through a review of the winning works of the Yunlin Culture and Art Award and close reading of representative texts: (a) How has the Yunlin Culture and Art Award cultivated a local literary culture in Yunlin? (b) How has Lin Haochun, a new Yunlin writer born after the 1990s, contributed to Yunlin literature through his creative writing and research? Two appendices are included: a list of winning works from the Yunlin Culture and Art Award [Appendix 1], and a chronology of Lin Haochun’s writings [Appendix 2]. |
