Su-Shih is not only a giant in the literature circle of the Northern Sung Dynasty, but also the former of Wen-Fu, among which his ante and post-Chih Pi Fu make a great success in his epoch and have been chanted for centuries. No other writers of Tsu and Fu in the Northern Sung Dynasty have peered his achievement and influence. In addition to his unparalleled masterpieces of Tsu and Fu, Su-Shih also contributed a lot to the theory and criticism of Tsu and Fu. Although he did not publish any book on the criticism of Tsu and Fu, his comments were extensively revealed in his poems, prefaces, postscripts and correspondence. For a long period, these critical opinions have not been gathered and edited completely. In order to have a comprehensive overview of Su-Shih's criticism on Tsu and Fu, this study aims to collect his commentaries from his poems, correspondence and colophons, to systemize and analyse his theory and criticism, as specified in the chapters of Exam System, Function, Composition, Writing Style and Criticism. |
