The excavation of The Bamboo Strips of Chu's Cemetery in Kuo-dien (郭店楚墓竹簡) turns over a new leaf in Confucianist studies since 1998. Scholars usually regard the strips entitled The Arts of Tang & Yu's Concession as a missing Confucianist document. However, it is a fallacy to jump to such a conclusion. This article means to rectify the fallacy by proving that The Arts of Tang & Yu's Concession is a Mocianist invention but plagiarized by the Confucians. This act of borrowing marks a distinction between the Mocianist tradition of concession to the sages and the Confucianist one of concession to the relatives. The former adores the sages whereas the latter tries to preserve the vested interests among the blue blood. |
