《左傳》輿人考

The Investigation into the ''Yiu -Ren'' in Zuo-Zhuan

本文在前人的研究基礎上作討論，認為輿人即是國人中被徵發以服徭役的庶人。但必須要注的是的，輿人並非是一種「身分」，而是專指一個「群體」，這些人即是具備徵發服徭役資格的庶人。至於輿人的工作，主要是與推挽車輦有關的事務，如推挽柩車、運載冰塊、及築城時或戰場上的物資、工具等物品，有時在戰爭時也擔任機動的工作，如揚起灰塵以欺敵等。

Based on the researches of previous scholars, the article does some discussion and is of the opinion that the ''Yu-Ren''(輿人) means the compatriots (國人), so called civilians (庶人), who are drafted into corvee. However, it must be paid much attention to that ''Yu-Ren'' do not mean a ''status'' but a ''group'' and these people are civilians, who are qualified for the conscript labour. With regard to the work of the ''Yu-Ren'', all what they do is mainly the affairs about pushing and dragging wheeled vehicles, such as pushing and dragging hearses, conveying ice blocks and transporting the goods, materials and tools while building a walled city or during a war time. Sometimes they also play a mobile role during a war, such as cheating the enemy by raising dust and so on.
