When I first read the theme 'Interdependence and Moderation' of the Third Pacific Rim Regional Congress the challenges of interdependence as well as the need of moderation intrigued me, especially in view of our time when nations and individuals are becoming more and more interdependent f.i. in the exchange of goods and ideas, and when even the balanced interdependence between mankind and nature may end in a vicious circle, leading to mutual - i e. also interdependent destruction. But when I questioned the meaning of the term moderation in view of the psychiatric/group psychotherapeutic congress I found myself in some distress. Therefore, I consulted the Oxford Dictionary. It explains moderation as 'action or act of moderating' and 'to moderate' as 'to render less violent, intense, rigorous, or burdensome'. |
