As an administrative unit supporting the university’s faculty and students in teaching, researching and learning, university libraries serve as a place with dynamic spaces that foster collaborative learning and recreational interaction for the new generation. This article takes the National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology (NKUST) library as an example, exploring the transformations since the university’s merger. Since the merger, NKUST library adopts the integration of smart devices and systems, reshapes the traditional image of a library as merely a book repository to a diversified reading environment by space renovation, and provides high-quality services to faculty and students by promoting library resources and supporting teaching, researching and learning resources. Additionally, by incorporating with various reading, artistic and cultural activities, the library makes the university full of a humanistic and social science atmosphere. This article serves as a historical testimony of the NKUST library’s evolution since its merger and can also be used as a valuable reference for future development of libraries in universities of science and technology. |
