This paper elucidates the purpose, design principles, and practical outcomes of the“Classical Catalog Navigation System”developed by the Institute of History and Philology at Academia Sinica. Amidst the transformative shifts in information technology, paradigms of knowledge organization have evolved from traditional single-object models to multifaceted organizational approaches. Chinese classical catalogs transcend mere bibliographic compilations, embodying rich classification theories and significant intellectual historical insights, thereby possessing considerable academic value for discerning scholarly divisions and tracing textual provenance. The design philosophy of the system centers on digitizing and visualizing the intrinsic classification frameworks of classical catalogs. Each functional module has been meticulously optimized to address the unique characteristics of Chinese classical texts, specifically offering full-text search capabilities and integration of scholarly content—such as original commentaries and abstracts—to enhance the retrieval and knowledge exploration of the Chinese classical texts. In conclusion, this system demonstrably contributes to the digital advancement of ancient text research, augments the quality of academic inquiry, recontextualizing the academic significance and value of classical bibliographic compilations, reinforces the visualization of classification structures, and significantly enhances search efficiency. |
