In the era of post-materialist values, people’s fundamental priorities have changed from adequate food, clothing, and safety needs to social, knowledge, and aesthetic needs. As data from the World Values Survey (2012) indicate, the priorities of people living in mainland China show apparent characteristics of post-materialism. The materialist view of entertainment, characterized by sensory stimulation, is no longer able to meet the needs of the audience in the era of post-materialist values, making the departure of media from entertainment inevitable. |
