「空知川沿岸」關於森林砍伐的描寫－－國木田獨步之環境意識的形成｜Description of Deforestation in On the Banks of the Sorachi River: The Formation of Doppo Kunikida’s Environmental Consciousness

本論文以「空知川沿岸」之中關於森林砍伐的描寫為中心，考察國木田獨步周圍的環境意識可能帶來的影響。考察結果顯示，獨步日常生活中閱讀的大眾新聞報紙的確報導了北海道森林砍伐的問題。並且，獨步在創作「空知川沿岸」之際，參考了友人宮崎湖處子的著作《華茲渥斯》中關於鐵道與森林砍伐的書寫。此外，也可觀察到，小島烏水既讚賞「空知川沿岸」又關心環境問題，獨步回應他的讚賞時也提及了森林砍伐的現象。由此，在周圍對獨步的影響與共鳴的定位中，「空知川沿岸」可以視作描摹出環境意識的創作來閱讀。

本稿では、「空知川の岸辺」における森林伐採の描写を中心に、国木田独歩に影響を与えうる周辺の環境意識について考察した。その結果、独歩が日常的に読んでいた大衆新聞紙が、北海道の森林伐採問題を報じていたことが明らかになった。また、独歩が「空知川の岸辺」を創作する際に、友人の宮崎湖処子の著作『ヲルヅヲルス』に書かれている鉄道と森林伐採の表現を踏まえていることもわかった。さらに、「「空知川の岸辺」を評価した小島烏水も環境問題に関心を持っており、彼の評価に対する独歩の返答からも森林伐採の現象への言及が窺える。このように、独歩に対する周辺の影響と共鳴の中に位置づけられる「空知川の岸辺」は、環境意識が表象されている創作として読まれることができるだろう。
This paper focuses on the depiction of deforestation in On the Banks of the Sorachi River and examines the surrounding environmental consciousness that may have influenced Doppo Kunikida. The findings indicate that the popular newspapers Doppo regularly read reported on deforestation issues in Hokkaido. It was also discovered that Doppo referenced expressions related to railways and deforestation from A Biography of Wordsworth, a work by Koshoshi Miyazaki, during his creative process. Furthermore, Usui Kojima, who evaluated Doppo’s work, also had an interest in environmental issues, and Doppo’s response to his evaluation mentioned the phenomenon of deforestation. As the results of this study suggest, On the Banks of the Sorachi River, positioned within the influences and resonances surrounding Doppo, can be interpreted as a work reflecting the emerging awareness of environmental consciousness.
