Xiang Yang's dedication and contribution to literary editing are rarely mentioned and discussed. In fact, in addition to literary creation, he began to explore his editorial career very early. Editing newspapers and magazines was not only Xiang Yang's profession but also his career during his youth and prime years. In 1982, he was the publisher of Sunshine Collection poetry magazine, an editorial board member of the annual poetry selection of the Er-ya edition (Elite Books), and the arts and literature section chief and supplement editor of The Independence Evening Post. Xiang Yang also participated in editing official publications for various county and city governments' youth literature textbooks, and the compilation of writer research materials by the Taiwan Literature Museum. This article divides his literary editing journey into four stages (nascent period, newspaper and magazine period, advanced study period, and educational period), and asserts that Xiang Yang, in his capacity as a ''poet-editor,'' timely intervened, promoted, and changed the development of contemporary Taiwanese literature. This research also uses interviews, hoping to leave precious audio and video records of the literary editor’s deeds. |
