I feel that nowadays college students are often confused about their careers, and more and more students are in the situation of career indecisiveness, including teacher education students who have already obtained the qualification for teacher education, are often in a state of uncertainty about their careers. Among them, family background factors often affect individuals' career decisions, and in the complex process of career development, the planned happenstance also plays an important role, which enables individuals to be exposed to multifaceted experiences and opportunities, expanding their exploration directions and career choices, and then influencing their career planning and execution. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the relationship between family socio-economic status and career planning and execution, and whether the planned happenstance can play a mediating role between family socio-economic status and career planning and execution. This study aims to investigate the relationship between family socio-economic status and career planning and execution among college students, using planned happenstance as a mediating variable. The target population of this study was college students in Taiwan. Based on the number of college students in Taiwan in the 2022 academic year announced by the Statistics Department of the Ministry of Education, a total of 320 college students were sampled by an online questionnaire survey with a confidence level of 95% and a margin of error of 5%. The research instrument was a basic data questionnaire and two standardized questionnaires, including the Planned Happenstance Career Inventory Scale and the Career Planning and Execution Scale, and the data were analyzed by using SPSS27 statistical software to conduct narrative statistics, multiple regression analysis, and mediated effects. Findings of this study: 1. There is a significant positive correlation between students' family socio-economic status and their planned happenstance; 2. There is a significant positive correlation between students' planned happenstance and their career planning and execution; 3. There is a significant positive correlation between students' family socio-economic status and their career planning and execution; and 4. There is a significant mediating effect of students' planned happenstance on the relationship between their family socio-economic status and their career planning and execution. Based on the findings of this study, the intervention of planned happenstance will be further suggested as a reference for the career planning and execution of teacher education students as well as a reference for future research. |
