The essay ''My Superficial Understanding of Drama'' in the book ''Humanistic Buddhism Series'' (No. 191) discusses Venerable Master Hsing Yun's childhood experiences of watching dramas in his hometown, which led to his affinity with drama. He gained many insights into loyalty, filial piety, and righteousness from dramas, accumulating common sense and knowledge. This experience also helped him understand the importance of popularizing Buddhism through drama. This study focuses on this essay to analyze the Master's views on drama and his practical approach, to understand the reasons for his passion for and emphasis on Chinese opera culture, and to examine how the Master extends the characteristics of drama to his own concept of popularizing Buddhism. |
