According to the record in Hai-tian-you-zong 1, Master Hsing Yun and others started visit to Thailand and other countries to understand the development of Buddhism from June 26, 1963. After leaving India, they came to Malaya (later become Malaysia) on July 23 before going to Singapore. This trip was the beginning of the close Buddhist causes between Master Hsing Yun and Malaysia. The Buddhist atmosphere affect Master Hsing Yun when he first arrived. Then, he visited Buddhist temples and schools in Malaya, and also interact with the monks in Malaya. This article will briefly review the important people he met and the important things he did while promoting Buddhism in Malaya since 1963. It will also discuss some of the impressions or inspirations he gained in Malaysia, and observe how he applies the multiple causes which related to Malaysia in the spread of Buddhism. |
