Han Yuanji was an important poet in the mid-Southern Song Dynasty. In 1173, he was sent to the Jin Dynasty and tasked by the emperor to observe whether the Jin Dynasty would attack the Song Dynasty. He took advantage of this opportunity to observe the situation of the Jin Dynasty and confirmed that the Jin Dynasty had no plans to attack the Song Dynasty. He left behind some documents related to his mission to the Jin Dynasty. Many of Han Yuanji's documents related to his mission to the Jin Dynasty, including the 'Shuoxing Diary,' have already disappeared. The 'Nanjian Jia Yi Gao' was compiled by Siku Quanshu officials from the 'Yongle Encyclopedia,' thus the surviving documents related to his mission to the Jin Dynasty are scattered throughout various collections. According to research, there are currently 13 extant documents related to Han Yuanji's mission to the Jin Dynasty, along with its derivative works. Additionally, 17 pieces have been mistakenly identified by some ancient literary researchers as documents related to his mission to the Jin Dynasty. Although the existing number of documents related to Han Yuanji's mission to the Jin Dynasty is limited and their content fragmented, they can still provide assistance to the study of Jin history and research on the Song-Jin relations when considered alongside other literature. |
