This paper proposes to explore how the experiential dream group can function to develop self-awareness and healing. The authors were participant observers in two of these dream groups, made a written record participant observers in two of these dream groups, made a written record of her experiences, and then analyzed these notes. Their conclusion is that the experiential dream group promotes healing in at least four ways: (1)the dreamer is enlightened as to the meaning of her dream, (2)to the extent group members see their own situation reflected in the dream, they can also gain self-awareness and healing from the work, (3)what the group members are able to see in the dream from their own experience can enhance the dreamer's understanding of her own dream and life, the overall effect of the work is an interwoven empowering that affects everyone in the group. The author concludes that the opportunity for a deep relationship with dreaming consciousness afforded by this kind of dream group can be a powerful method for life education. |
