Global Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) is the fundamental way towards sustainable development because it can fundamentally facilitate the spontaneous transformation of our ideal visions into practical actions and consider the economic, ecological, and equity issues of the future global society from a long-term perspective. This paper attempts to systematize the historical progress of ESD in the United Nations and the major commitments of global ESD policies in recent years: (1) The Education 2030 Framework for Action, (2) The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development Learning Framework 2030, and (3) The recommendation of the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development. By extracting policy illustrations from the aforementioned reviews and commitments, this paper seeks to emphasize how countries around the world can specifically go beyond SDG4, fulfill and translate such global consensus on SDG4 into local practice, and achieve and surpass existing ESD education goals globally. |
