The Regulations for the Cultivation and Appointment of Indigenous Language Teachers promulgated by the Ministry of Education stipulates the certification thresholds of the Indigenous language proficiency for approximately 290 student teachers, including: Student teachers specializing in Indigenous language for secondary education must pass advanced certification before they can teach Indigenous language courses; government-funded Indigenous student teachers or student teachers of the Indigenous special classes of early childhood education must pass higher-intermediate certification before they can teach with Indigenous language in fields other than Indigenous language courses. However, Indigenous languages are seriously endangered, and most student teachers only have intermediate certification, making it difficult to understand the complex grammar in various teaching materials built by the state on the Taiwan-Austronesian Indigenous Words and Narrations website. To overcome this difficulty, Indigenous language student teachers for secondary education can be the core members to apply the Indigenous grammatical knowledge obtained from the state-subsidized research conducted by linguists to interpret various teaching materials and Indigenous language certification test questions, record short films of grammar, and then establish a self-directed learning online channel to connect student teachers of various institutions to realize the legislative idea of the National Language Development Act. |
