This study investigates the development of Taiwan’s teacher selection system after promulgating the Teacher Education Act in 1994. It examines the current status of physical education teacher internship planning, teacher vacancies in various counties and cities, and examination formats. This study aims to understand the challenges teacher education policies with market logic such as self-financing, reserve, and marketization bring to physical education teachers’selection, appointment, and professional development. The research results highlight the shortcomings of the current selection mechanism in Taiwan. In addition to being affected by social structure, the current teacher recruitment cannot effectively select physical education teachers who have the potential to become expert teachers in the future. Furthermore, the study found a lack of appropriate theory to explain the challenges faced by physical education teachers during the selection process. This study recommends considering the occupational socialization theory for future research in this area. |
