The main purpose of this paper is to illustrate and analyze the Biden administration’s Taiwan policy. First, the study finds that the Biden administration has continued the Trump administration’s Indo-Pacific strategy of targeting China by adopting a multilateralism mechanism, emphasizing international engagement, and stressing cooperation with allied countries. Second, under the influence of the U.S. push for the Indo-Pacific Strategy, and given Taiwan’s geostrategic importance and its status as fortress of democracy, the U.S. has continued to strengthen its cooperation with Taiwan through a number of channels, such as the continued sale of defensive weapons to Taiwan and the provision of military assistance through Foreign Military Financing to help enhance Taiwan’s asymmetric capabilities. The U.S. also encourages military exchanges and information sharing between Taiwan and the U.S., and assists Taiwan in training its military forces in response to the CCP’s continued military expansion and provocative behavior. Finally, the U.S. continues to strengthen cooperation in the areas of trade and non-traditional security, and will continue to deepen its relationship with Taiwan in the foreseeable future as it continues to advance its Indo-Pacific Strategy. |
