Because of unique historical and social circumstances, Taiwan literature is not broadly appreciated in the land that has been its primary font of inspiration. Therefore, in designing, curating, and promoting exhibitions, the dichotomy between scholarly rigor and public interest and acceptance is an issue that the National Museum of Taiwan Literature (NMTL) must regularly take into consideration and work to temper. NMTL’s third permanent exhibition, entitled“The Power of Literature: Writing Our Taiwan”, was carefully developed to achieve both objectives. From strategic exhibition planning through to the use of interactive installations and innovative, technology-enhanced tour aids, the curation team focused its efforts on transforming substantive and scholarly information, research results, and collection items into a curated narrative and displays that would be approachable, relevant, and easily understood and appreciated by museum visitors. In this paper, case analysis is used to explain the efficacy and meaning of the exhibition transformation process and to highlight the related results achieved by the NMT |
