In this study, a comparison was made between the covers of tourist brochures published in Japan and Taiwan, and the design items were categorized to establish a model of brochure cover design for Japan and Taiwan. The number of design categories in Japan is nearly twice that of Taiwan, and many of the Japanese samples use a mixture of photos and illustrations; the Taiwanese samples tend to only use photos or illustrations; the design model shows that the Japanese models are more than the Taiwanese samples. The two models were cross-applied to the new design samples and a preference survey was done for both countries. Japanese respondents preferred simple images and a small amount of text, multiple illustrations with suitable placement, and titles with English. Taiwanese respondents preferred multi-color titles and an overall design with a single image. In the overall design preference ranking of the new sample, most of the design models preferred by the respondents were Japanese design models, which uses a single photo with a small amount of text, and the other is a mix of multiple text with illustrations and photos. The less preferred design models were the design models that used multiple illustrations. Due to the influence of design categories, some special samples from Taiwan are not presented. How to show more styles of design models can be the issue of further research. |
