After the Curriculum Guidelines of 12-year Basic Education was announced in 2014, Taiwan began to implement these new guidelines in the 108 academic year (titled as 2019 Guidelines). Since then, the general senior high schools have encountered the most challenges upon this reform, which also did verify the professional skills of all principals' curriculum and instructional leadership. This study, taking a general high school as the research base, and collected related data through interviews with the principal and document analysis, with a purpose to further understand the processes how the principal used his leadership, specifically on the curriculum and instructional perspectives, to promote this 2019 Guidelines. This research also looked at the success and difficulties the principal faced and how he dealt with them. The effect of his open classes was explored, too. Finally, the results found were that the positive manner on the Guidelines was both supportively implemented by the two principals of the school, the former and later ones. Through various strategies of curriculum and instructional leadership applied, the overall quality of the school's curriculum and teaching was greatly improved. Though the school did face some difficulties in promoting the Guidelines, the later principal was able to propose some research conclusions as well as several corresponding strategies to address them. As a conclusion, this paper also made some suggestions for possible studies in the future. |
