The Programme for Early Childhood Health Promotion, sponsored by the Health Promotion Administration, Ministry of Health and Welfare, has been in practice for 6 years. The programme focuses on three dimensions of health promotion in ECEC settings: the health policy of the ECEC settings, young children’s healthy skills and behaviors, and communication with parents and community resources. This programme focuses on four health issues: health-related physical fitness, healthy diet, eye care, and accident and injury prevention. Over 1,000 ECEC practitioners and about 300 ECEC settings participated in this programme. The effects of this programme can be illustrated by the ECEC practitioners’ competence development in health promotion, the young children’s health skills and behaviors improved, and the parents and community worked together in health promotion. The programme for Early Childhood Health Promotion, which is one of the few national projects sponsored and supported by the government, provides a practical and effective model for reference. |
