This study used content analysis methods to examine journal articles on Taiwan's digital archives. Specifically, we analyzed the research results, orientations, and trends of Taiwan's digital archives according to the themes, methods, tools, aspects, and attributes of the research papers therein. To this end, we used ACI indexed journals to identify a total of 64 journal papers on Taiwan's digital archives from 2011 to 2021, which were then utilized for content analysis. The results revealed that: (1) the topic of cultural relics exploration ranked first among research themes; (2) regarding research methods, content analysis is used frequently, but mixed research methods are adopted most often; (3) the research tools are dominated by interviews; (4) the research orientation is mainly based on content and technical aspects; and (5) among the five attributes of thesis research writing, the analysis of digital content is the most prominent one. For the analyzed 11 years, the research themes, aspects, and attributes have been dominated by the exploration of cultural relics, content, and the collection of artifacts. These have changed over time, but the application of research methods and research tools has diversified with the advent of information technology. In recent years, the use of archives has become increasingly diversified, and future research should focus more on user experience, needs, and satisfaction. The results of this study sould serve as an essential reference for future research on digital archives. It is also suggested that the results of this study should be included in Master's/PhD theses to expand the text sampling or to include different analytical components in order to paint a more complete picture of the trends and image of digital archives research. |
