The world knows that Li Shutong (1880-1942) is famous for his calligraphy, but few know that he was good at stele science. This article mainly analyzes and compares Li Shutong's calligraphy style before and after he became a monk, tries to explore his works and stele study calligraphy works in stages, analyzes his calligraphy performance method and calligraphy characteristics during each period, and conducts cross-comparison with the system produced by stele study in the late Qing Dynasty. Moreover, textual research on his art and literature, his process of teaching and learning of calligraphy, and the attributes of his calligraphy system are summarized through the comparison of an inscription study, book study and the Yanliu system. We use the biographical research method and comparison with Li Shutong's calligraphy and ancient tablet inscriptions and conduct comparative analysis of inscriptions to explore the textual research of his friends' letters and classics, and various artistic works derived from them. We also analyze his ability to integrate art and literature, and explore the way he chose to preach and practice after becoming a monk. We also carry out in-depth study of the characteristics of calligraphy and the model of characters in regular script research, and further analysis of Li Shutong's handwriting by using the text research. This analysis method based on connotations of Li Shutong's innovative posture aims to set a new milestone in the calligraphy field. |
