This study explored the effectiveness of the Mindfulness-Based Program at a senior center in improving the well-being of elderly learners. An action research approach was adopted with elderly members of Senior Citizen Learning Centers in North Taiwan as participants. The program was designed based on theories of well-being, and consists of three main activities in sequence, including warming up, following up, and meditation/deep thought. The result revealed that elderly participants reported producing more positive emotions, as well as increasing their well-being, as a result of taking part in the Mindfulness-Based Program. Additionally, their physical and mental health have improved significantly. However, there were a few challenges encountered during the course, such as adjusting the course design and teaching pace to accommodate limited equipment, space, course hours and participants. This also impacts the data collection methods. On the basis of the discussion and the conclusion, some suggestions are made for teachers' improvement as well as for further research. |
