The authority for inspection of imported food and the related products in Taiwan is Taiwan Food and Drug Administration, Ministry of Health and Welfare. The most essential control measure to reduce the risks of non-compliant imported foods is border inspection management. Here we reviewed the border inspection management of Australia, New Zealand, the United States, Canada, the European union, Japan, Korea, Singapore and Thailand, and concluded that risk management is the basis of inspection management, although there are individual inspection managements for each country. Our government also employed the risk management methods to classify imported foods into regular randomly-selected batch inspection, reinforced randomly-selected batch inspection, and batch-by-batch verification according to different risk, and continued to optimize the risk prediction mechanism. It can enhance more effective allocation of border management resources and thus the effectiveness of inspections, to ensure the compliance of imported food and protect the health of people. |
