"This article discusses the interaction of colonial process from the government and the local social leadership , by exploring the establishment of official organization in Da Daou cheng(大稻埕). The former researchers not only illustrate this subject with the elaboration of 'the resistance- suppression', but have additionally proposed that the support from local headman to the colonial government to advance the dominant of Japan. This elaboration often regards the social leadership as in passive status, and being unable to have the influence to the colonial government. But the version ignores the process of 'the early modern society' to 'the modern society' by the colonial government. The purpose of this article discusses the changed process, and detects the influence of the social leadership on the domination of Japan. This article points out that the Sotokufu(總督府) could control the local society by manipulating the local social leadership. In other words, the assistance from intermediary groups processes the local administration, which is mainly from ' Bao jia(保甲)', the public security organization in Qing Dynasty, and then transformed to be able cooperate the colonial administration. However, this kind of transformed view actually neglects the intention of the local social leadership. In fact, it is detectable from evolution of Bao jia. At first, the local headman had not lost the independent right, but under the reforms of the Sotokufu, they became to one of' the officials ', thus integrated into the colonial system. Although the local social leadership lose the relative independent power of 'the Qing government authorities', they participated in the administrative system, and became important auxiliaries of colonial administration." |
