"The paper aims to explores the positive and negative effects of information technology on education as well as the language and literacy education of Mandarin Chinese in the context of the contemporary society with the epidemic of COVID-19 pandemic. It uses the method of literature review to analyze, discuss and explain this topic. The research results show that the impact of information technology on education is both extensive and far-reaching, and already an indispensable part of learning and life. It can break through the limitations of time and space. It has accelerated the popularization of remote and online teaching and started the new model of learning. Its impact on the language and literacy education of Mandarin Chinese education has led to the redefinition of traditional literacy skills, and instead emphasizes multi-literacy skills. Moreover, making good use of information technology can help improve the learning effectiveness of traditional language and literacy skills, and can also promote the development of multi-literacy skills, so that students become active learners; however, schools and teachers should also embrace the information technology and deliberate the issues such as equal opportunity, network ethics, to prevent possible potential negative effects.
