"Indigenous student’s education is much improved, especially at higher education level, along with the implementation of Taiwanese government’s relevant policies in recent years. When indigenous people have more opportunities to access higher education, it means that they tend to overcome their economic disadvantaged status in the society by their higher education degrees. However, the dropout rate of indigenous students is much higher than Han counterparts at higher education level. This article, therefore, organizes literatures regarding cultural differences and challenges faced by indigenous students in the mainstream education system for further understand the influences of indigenous students’ learning styles on their learning effectiveness to fully represent the reality of indigenous students’ learning/living adjustment at higher education institutions. Furthermore, the article points out the possible supporting strategies for indigenous students’ learning at higher education institutions, including: improving the academic preparation of indigenous students, strengthening the sense of belonging of indigenous students on campus, developing good interaction between faculty and indigenous students, opening courses/programs corresponding to indigenous students’ needs, providing indigenous students supportive services, etc." |
