"Qualitative research theses are often presented in the form of stories, which has attracted many graduate students, and yet qualitative research is not easy to do. This article attempts to explain the process of qualitative research from 'how qualitative researchers think', in order to improve novice researchers’ understanding of qualitative research and reduce the difficulty of engaging in qualitative research. In the process of qualitative research, two ways of thinking are used: holistic intuition and logical reasoning—the former is fast thinking and the latter is slow thinking. These two ways of thinking can be seen in all aspects, such as research purpose, research topic, research design, data collection, data analysis, research tools, and writing a thesis. This article first analyzes the two ways of thinking, and then uses examples to explain how qualitative researchers use these two ways of thinking. Subsequently, this article uses the contrastive method to explain the two ways of thinking in the research process one by one. At the end of the article, several suggestions are made for the reference of novice researchers." |
